“This case is a stark reminder that while the internet is a tremendous resource, people you meet on-line are strangers and we have to be mindful and vigilant about who we, and our children, interact with on the internet,” District Attorney Ryan said in the release. “This defendant pursued this victim on-line, insinuated that he knew things about her, and then took advantage of her trusting nature. I commend this victim’s willingness to disclose what happened to her and to testify about it in court.”
According to Ryan's office, in November 2011, the defendant contacted the 18-year-old female victim through her Facebook page. That Facebook page, including photographs and information that the victim had posted, was available to the public as the victim had not known she could have changed the settings to restrict access to it. Because of that, the defendant, armed with information about the victim, was able to contact her and develop a quick rapport with her where she came to trust him.

The following day, the defendant asked the victim to go on a date to a restaurant and she agreed, the release states. He picked her up outside her school and drove her around for hours, continuing to maintain that they would soon be heading to the restaurant. Instead, he ultimately drove her to a secluded empty parking lot in Burlington where he threatened that he would not bring her home unless she had sex with him. While parked, the defendant forced the victim to engage in sexual conduct.
According to the DA, several weeks later, the defendant contacted the victim via text and Facebook messages. He told her that he had videos of the assault and threatened to post them on the internet if she did not meet him to engage in further sexual activity. Shortly thereafter, the victim reported the assault to the Burlington Police Department and they began an investigation.
The prosecutors assigned to this case were Assistant District Attorney Marisa Tagliareni and Assistant District Attorney Lisa Fuccione. The Victim Witness Advocate was Danielle DeMeo. The Paralegal was Kate Canty.
Det. Anne-Marie Browne of the Burlington Police Department spent many hours investigating this case and working with the victim. She was also able to secure a search warrant for the suspect's computer.
