Deputy Chief Robert Kirchner of the Burlington PD had a few tips for residents to avoid being victims of a package thief:

  • Make sure to know the date of your delivery.
  • If possible, make sure someone is home to accept the package.
  • If you cannot be home on that date, make arrangements to have someone — a friend, neighbor or relative — pick up the package at your home.
  • Remember that having the package delivered to a place of employment is another option for some residents.
  • Place security cameras where they can be seen, which could deter a suspect from getting closer to the porch.

The Burlington PD said residents who see a crime in progress should call 911 or 781-272-1212 and hit 0 for dispatch.
