Burlington Police Plan ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ Campaign
Police will have extra personnel watching for impaired driving through the end of the month.
BURLINGTON, MA — The Burlington Police will ramp up impaired driving patrols over the coming weeks as part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign, Police Chief Thomas Browne announced on Friday.
The campaign kicked off on Dec. 1 to continue through Dec. 31. Police will spend these weeks with multiple officers around town watching for signs of impaired and reckless driving, Browne said.
Browne last week reminded area community members to never get behind the wheel if they have been drinking. Passengers should never get into a vehicle whose driver has been drinking or is otherwise impaired.

Money for the Burlington Police department’s ongoing enforcement campaign comes via a batch of roughly $35,000 in state funding given to Burlington earlier this year through the state Municipal Road Safety Program.

Police celebrated the grant in October, receiving money for multiple campaigns including “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”
Multiple departments across the state, including the State Police are participating in this campaign alongside Burlington Police.
Browne recently noted national data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showing that roughly a third of all traffic crash deaths in the United States each year involve drunk drivers.
Experts and agencies including the federal Department of Transportation have warned that rates of drunk or otherwise impaired driving often rise during the holiday season.
