Burlington Police, USPS Host Children's Safety Awareness Event May 29

Police Chief Michael Kent and the Burlington Police Department are collaborating with the United States Postal Service to host a Children’s Safety Awareness Event next week.

Residents are invited to attend the free event on Friday, May 29, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Burlington Post Office, 5 Bedford St.

Several national, state and local missing and exploited children’s agencies will be in attendance to answer questions and speak to parents about safety awareness in the real world and online.

Fingerprinting kits will be offered to residents to take home, or children can be fingerprinted that day by a Burlington Police Officer.

“We encourage parents and their children to stop by the post office, fingerprint their children and pick up safety materials,” Chief Kent said. “We want to help ensure no child ever goes missing or is exploited.”

The post office will also introduce its new Forget-Me-Not stamp, which will be released to support the effort targeted at finding missing children.

“Although this is considered a stamp event, we at the Burlington Post Office want to use our new stamp to bring attention to this critically important issue while raising awareness,” said Burlington Postmaster Janet Atkinson. “We hope parents come and learn about how they can help keep their children safe.”

Handouts and giveaways will be set up throughout the area and refreshments will be served.
