Fatal Early Morning Crash in Lexington Causes Major Traffic Delays in the Region

A tractor-trailer driver was killed when he crashed early Wednesday morning on Interstate 95 in Lexington, according to state police.

The driver was a 52-year-old from Saugus, according to state police.

Troopers from the Concord Barracks responded to a report of a rollover crash just before 5 Wednesday morning involving a tandem-tractor trailer unit on Route 95 northbound, south of exit 31 in Lexington.

The big rig driver lost control of the vehicle on the northbound side of the highway near Exit 31 and crashed; the truck rolled over onto its side.

The driver was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to Lahey Clinic, where he was pronounced deceased, according to authorities. His identity was withheld pending family notification.

The two right travel lanes and break-down lane of Route 95 north were closed. Traffic in both directions was backed-up for hours, into the afternoon.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Crime Scene Services Section.
