Lahey Cancer Institute 5K Raises Funds To Support Patients In Burlington
The event generates over $250,000 each year for cancer support services.

BURLINGTON, MA – Nearly 500 walkers and runners laced up their sneakers Sept. 6 for the 19th annual Lahey Cancer Institute 5K Walk and Run, circling the streets around Lahey Hospital & Medical Center to raise funds to support cancer services in the region, according to a statement from the hospital.
"The event brought together patients, families, colleagues and community members in a celebration of hope, resilience and community spirit, with a shared mission to raise funds to advance clinical research and provide services and resources supporting cancer patients and their families," the statement reads.
Top fundraising teams included Cats & Dogs Against Cancer; Cancer Crusaders, representing Lahey’s Hematology and Oncology team; Jean’s Angels; and Radiate Love, representing Lahey’s Radiation Oncology team.

Paul Hesketh, director of the Lahey Cancer Institute, thanked his Lahey colleagues, including Corrine Zarwan, chair of the Division of Hematology/Oncology, and Angela Tambini, executive director of Cancer Services, for their efforts coordinating the event.
Since its inception, the Lahey Cancer Institute 5K has raised nearly $4 million to advance cancer care.

“We are incredibly grateful for every walker, every runner, every volunteer, and every person who took the time to support such a worthy cause,” Hesketh said. “The funds raised from this walk will go to support vital programs that truly make a difference in the lives of our patients.”
