Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspect

The Burlington Police Department's K-9 unit responded to the area and searched the parking lot.

Bedford Police arrested a man this morning in connection with the robbery of the Bedford branch of Brookline Bank last month.

Patrick Gefrich, 35, of Salem, was arrested and taken into custody Monday morning outside his home on Essex Street in Salem and is being charged with one count of Unarmed bank robbery. Gefrich was also wanted on multiple warrants out of Milford District Court.

The Brookline Bank, located at 168 The Great Road in Bedford, was robbed on Sept. 18. The suspect allegedly approached a teller and made a verbal demand for cash. No note was passed and no weapon was shown.

A witness reported the man then fled out the front door heading toward 200 The Great Road. The Burlington Police Department’s K-9 unit responded to the area and searched the parking lot, where the scent stopped. The K-9 also tracked the suspect’s scent toward the bike path before it was lost. Surrounding towns were notified of the incident and received a description of the suspect.

“I commend the strong teamwork by Bedford Police and all of the departments who assisted us,” said Bedford Police Chief Robert Bongiorno in a statement. “This was truly a joint effort by all parties involved that allowed us to capture this dangerous felon.”

Bedford Police were also assisted by the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force, Massachusetts State Police, and Salem Police.

The Salem man was scheduled to be arrigned on Monday. These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
