Police Logs: Shoplifters Stuffing Merchandise Down Pants, Lottery Themed Scams

Burlington Police Department logs for April 18 to 19.

Following are excerpts from the Burlington Police Department log. Note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

April 18

  • At 12:56 a.m. police issued a summons to a Lowell woman on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
  • At 1:12 a.m. a Staybridge Suites caller reported loud music coming from one of the rooms disturbing other guests. Police spoke to the party who agreed to turn music down.
  • At 5:36 p.m. a Carol Avenue caller reported getting a call from an unknown male who stated they won a mega-millions jackpot and they needed to buy Paks at CVS to claim the prize.
  • At 9:35 p.m. police issued a summons to a Woburn man on a charge of selling/delivering alcohol to a person under 21 years of age. Summons issued after two parties were located in the woods off of Wellesley Avenue.

April 19

  • At 7:22 a.m. a Recreation Department employee reported finding an empty shotgun shell at Overlook Park on Overlook Avenue. Police checked area and found no damage or other shells.
  • At 8:43 a.m. there were multiple calls of an erratic driver behind the wheel of a red Ford Taurus near the Route 128 on ramp on Cambridge Street.
  • At 9:43 a.m. a Carol Avenue caller reported receiving a phone call from an unknown person saying she won the lottery and needs to pay $1,000 to collect. Caller was taken for $1,050 in the scam.
  • At 11:24 a.m. an employee at Carter's Children Clothing in the Wayside plaza set of the hold-up alarm because a male customer gave her a "bad feeling." Police advised employee not do that again.
  • At 11:36 a.m. a caller on South Bedford Street reported a Middle Eastern man walking down the street and suggested police check on him "due to the day's events." Police spoke to the man who was not a person of interest. 
  • At 4:39 p.m. a caller at the Burlington Mall reported his vehicle was struck while parked.
  • At 5:30 p.m. a Lord & Taylor loss prevention officer reported shoppers shoving merchandise down their pants and requested police assistance. Woburn couple to be summonsed for shoplifting of approximately $200 worth of merchandise.
  • At 8:32 p.m. police arrested Nicholas Anthony Banks, 25, of 21 Partridge Hill Road, Arlington, on a charge of possession of a Class B drug.
  • At 9:10 p.m. a caller at the Burlington Mall reported youths jumping on cars.
  • At 8:01 p.m. a caller reported a group of youths heading into the woods towards the reservoir from Hansen Avenue. The group fled when they saw police. A few youths were located and picked up by their parents.
