National Library Week is celebrated in communities, schools and campuses across the country each year. The theme celebrated by the American Library Association this year is “Communities Matter@ Your Library”. I’m sure that you see these community-building connections happening all the time at the Burlington Public Library. We have just completed the “Burlington Reads 2013” event which was so successful because businesses, organizations and members of the community came together to make it happen. We also see firsthand how Burlington Public Library helps foster all types of communities daily. New moms connect at storytime, clubs and organizations convene to share their ideas and interests, tutors work with students, staff instruct groups on latest technology, and teens meet up to collaborate on projects and to hang out together after school. Service to the community has always been the focus of the library. While this aspect has never changed, libraries have grown and evolved in how they provide for the needs of every member of their community.
To celebrate our community, from April 14 through April 20, the Burlington Public Library will offer a Fine Free Week. Bring your library card to the Circulation Desk and if there are fines owed, they will be forgiven. Did you misplace your library card? Bring identification and proof of your Burlington residence to the Circulation Desk to obtain a free replacement card (normally a $1.00 charge).
