Two People Injured in Wrong-Way, Head-On Crash on Route 128
The investigation into which vehicle was going the wrong way is ongoing, according to state police.

A wrong-way driver caused a Tuesday early morning head-on collision on Route 128 near the Lexington-Burlington line early Tuesday morning, according to Massachusetts State Police. Two people were seriously injured, and the roadway was shut for a couple of hours for accident investigation, causing massive backups in both directions.
The crash occurred about 4:15 Tuesday morning in Lexington just before Route 3, and was caused by a vehicle driving southbound on the northbound side of Route 128. The two vehicles involved were a 2008 Hyundai Accent and a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt.

The investigation into which vehicle was going the wrong way is ongoing, according to state police.
The driver and sole occupant of the Hyundai, is a 20-year-old Wayland woman, and the driver and sole occupant of the Cobalt, is a 27-year-old Dracut man. Both people transported to Lahey Clinic in Burlington for treatment of serious injuries, according to authorities.

The Jaws of Life were used to remove the drivers of both vehicles and according to some reports, both may have been unconscious when emergency crews arrived.
There is no word yet on their conditions.
All highway traffic lanes were closed for more than two hours following the crash. Just after 7 a.m. all lanes of the highway were opened.
