WATCH: Burlington Schools Fall Reopening Presentation
School officials adjusted plans from their School Committee presentation. Middle school students would attend in person for two full days.
BURLINGTON, MA — Burlington school officials made some adjustments to their preliminary reopening plans between July 21's School Committee meeting and the district's reopening presentation Thursday. Most prominently, the plan no longer envisions middle school students spending only a half day in school on their in-person learning days.
The new plan splits middle school students into two groups, as in the original version, and has them spend two days in-person and two days, plus a morning, learning remotely.
The new middle school plan matches the planned high school schedule, rather than sending middle school students home for lunch and afternoon remote learning.

For both the levels, there would be a third group of students who attend additional days in person. The extra afternoon, potentially Wednesdays, would be devoted to meetings and cleaning.
School officials also said they are considering alternating the two cohorts' days, so that holiday Mondays affect all students more evenly.

The elementary plan, in-person morning attendance and remote afternoons, was unchanged. But officials shared more detailed schedules for all levels.
The full presentation is available below, and the slides can be viewed here.
District officials also shared survey results showing over 16 percent of families would not send their kids to school in case of in-person or hybrid learning and over 43 percent would not send kids on the bus.
Just over half of staff either do not want to return to school (9.4 percent) or are hesitant and unsure (40.6)
