The 2020 census shows an America that is becoming more diverse, with the Hispanic population growing faster than any other.

CANTON, MA - The last 10 years have marked a dramatic shift in the demographic makeup of the United States, with a marked shrinkage of the white population and the rapid growth of the Hispanic community.

While the percentages of people of color in Canton showed substantial increases, the share of the white non-Hispanic population remained nearly constant, dipping by only 1 percent. Canton's white population equalled 17,772 of the town's 24,370 residents, or 72.925 percent, the largest represented group.

The biggest increases were of populations identifying as being of more than one race, although the reasons are complex. Experts say the increase reflects changes in the way people identify themselves as well the number of children born to parents of mixed races or ethnicities, along with changes in the wording of census forms themselves.
