3. April Vacation program: Keep the kids busy this week with the Charlestown Community Center’s April School Vacation Week Sports Program, which runs Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 255 Medford St. The program includes daily soccer and tennis clinics, basketball skills and drills, bicycle riding instruction and safety, volleyball, digital comic illustration, music production a workshop and production of “Peter Pan” and more. The cost is $25 per child for the week.
4. Charlestown Prison talk: The Charlestown Historical Society will give a free talk on the history of the Charlestown Prison, which operated from 1805-1955, tonight at 7 p.m. at the Battle of Bunker Hill Museum (43 Monument Sq.). The talk will be held in the community room.

5. Celebrate National Library Week: Essayist, novelist, editor, and Bennington College English professor Doug Bauer will read from his most recent collection of essays "What Happens Next?" as part of the South End Writes series tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the South End Branch of the Boston Public Library (685 Tremont St.).
