5 Things: Citywide Spring Leaf Collection Begins

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on April 29 in Charlestown.

1. Mostly sunny: Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 69 and a low around 47, according to the National Weather Service.

2. Yard waste collection: The City of Boston will begin spring leaf collection this week. Residents can place leaf and yard waste in large paper leaf bags or open barrels marked “yard waste,” to be collected on their usual recycling day. No plastic bags will be collected. Collection will continue through May 24. Get a free yard waste sticker and learn more about yard waste collection by calling 617-635-4500 or visiting cityofboston.gov/recycle.

3. Charlestown Live: If you missed BNN-TV’s latest episode of “Charlestown Live” last Thursday, you can catch a rerun today at 10:30 a.m. Host Kathy Giordano will speak with guests BPD Captain Tom Lee and Sgt. Tom Lema of Area A-1 about their experiences in the week following the Boston Marathon bombing as well as neighborhood crime, community partnerships and other topics.

4. Yard sale signup: Charlestown nonprofit Trinity Recovery for Women is holding a townwide yard sale on Saturday, May 11. For a $15 tax-deductible donation, your yard or sidewalk sale will be listed on a map that will be distributed around town. You keep all proceeds from your own yard sale. Details and a registration form can e found here: http://patch.com/N-gvcC. Deadline to sign up is May 4.

5. Summer healthcare jobs: MGH Charlestown HealthCare Center is looking for students to fill seven positions with their summer jobs program, which runs July 8 through Aug. 16. To refer a student, send the individual’s name and contact information to lsaulnier@partners.org or call 617-724-5534. The last day to submit a name is May 3.
