5 Things: Coffee with the Mayor, School Fundraiser

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on May 10 in Charlestown.

1. Almost 80! Today will be partly sunny with temperatures topping out near 80 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Showers and thunderstorms are possible late tonight, with a low around 57. Weekend forecast: Rain is expected both Saturday and Sunday, with highs around 70 degrees, a Saturday low around 53 and a Sunday low around 46.

2. Coffee with the mayor: Join Mayor Tom Menino for free coffee and refreshments at John Harvard Mall park this morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. All residents who attend will receive a free flowering plant.

3. WP school fundraiser: The Warren-Prescott School will hold its annual “Paint the Town” Spring Fling fundraiser tonight at Boston Beer Works on Canal Street from 7-11 p.m. There will be an open bar from 7-8 p.m., appetizers, buffet dinner, live/silent auction, music, dancing and more. Advance tickets cost $35 and are available at the school or online at www.warrenprescott.com—purchase by 2:30 p.m. to get the discounted price. Tickets will also be available at the door for $40.

4. Comedy show: The Bunker Hill Community College Theater Department will present "An Improv Showcase" featuring the 2013 improvisation class today at 1 p.m. in the Charlestown campus' Room A300. Admission is free.

5. Mother’s Day concert: Several Boston area family music artists are teaming up this weekend to present a free Mother’s Day concert to benefit the One Fund Boston. Featuring groups such as Karen K and the Jitterbugs and Vanessa Trien and the Jumping Monkeys, the event will be held Sunday, May 12 from 12-5 p.m. at the Exchange Conference Center (212 Northern Ave.), at the Fish Pier. Donations will be accepted for the One Fund. Vendors and businesses throughout the greater Boston area will donate food, drinks and other items. Learn more at onefamilymusicfestival.com
