5 Things: Local Voices Wanted, Neighborhood Meeting

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on May 28 in Charlestown.

1. Local voices wanted! Charlestown Patch is looking to refresh our Local Voices blog section, and we need your help. We want Charlestown residents and business owners to write about anything that interests you—hobbies, politics, your business or area of expertise, parenting, writing, sports, whatever. Are you an artist or photographer? Share an image of the day and link back to your personal website. Already have a blog? Use Patch to help promote it—share a summary or blurb from your latest post on our site with a link back to your original blog. To start blogging on Patch, log in or create a user profile and then post your first entry.

2. Neighborhood meeting: The Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services will hold an abutters meeting tonight at 7 p.m. regarding a proposal to build exterior decks and make other renovations at 399 Main St. and a proposal to build a rear addition at 118 Elm St. The meeting will be held at St. Francis de Sales Church (303 Bunker Hill St.). The matter will go before the Boston Zoning Board of Appeal on June 4.

3. Research study: The MGH-Charlestown Imaging Center is running a research study on maternal bonding and is looking for healthy mothers, ages 21 to 45, with infants ages 4-18 months to participate. For information, contact Dr. Shir Aztil at 617-373-2649 or email savraham-atzil@partners.org.

4. ‘Second Chance’ scholarships: The Alray Scholars Program offers scholarships of up to $5,000 for Boston public school students who left college early and want to return to earn degrees at two- or four-year colleges, trade schools or for other post-secondary education and certification programs. The deadline to apply is Saturday, June 15. More information and application materials can be found online at alray.org or by emailing info@alray.org.

5. Re-subscribe to T-Alerts: Beginning June 4, the MBTA will begin using a new service to send T-Alerts, so all current subscribers are being asked to re-subscribe to continue receiving these messages.
