5 Things: Moment of Silence, Jazz and Poetry

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on April 22 in Charlestown.

1. Sunny: Today will be sunny with a high near 50 degrees and a low around 38, according to the National Weather Service.

2. Copley Square closed: The cordoned-off area of Copley Square where two explosions occurred last Monday will remain closed for the time being, as the FBI continues its investigation of the bombing. That includes the Green Line’s Copley Station, which is being bypassed at this time, the Central Library and all other businesses and buildings within the blocked area. The Mayor’s Office over the weekend provided some information about the process of reopening the area, although a date has not been announced.

3. Moment of silence: People in the city of Boston and communities throughout Massachusetts are being asked to join in a moment of silence today at 2:50 p.m.—the time the two bombs went off, within about 10 seconds of one another, near the finish line of the 117th annual Boston Marathon. Bells throughout the city will ring following the moment of silence.
