3. Book discussion: Read “The Dante Club”? Drop by the Charlestown Branch Library (179 Main St.) tonight at 6:30 p.m. for a discussion of the book.

4. Party on the Pier: Home Away Boston, a new nonprofit that provides comfortable housing, a caring community and support services close to the hospital and free of charge to families with critically ill children, will host its first “Party on the Pier” fundraiser on Thursday, May 9. The event will take place from 6-9 p.m. at the Marriot Tudor Wharf in Charlestown and will include a cocktail reception catered by the award-winning caterer East Meets West and a live auction. 5. Writing help: Are you a writer looking to finish your children's book project? The Associates of the Boston Public Library is now seeking applications for their 10th annual Children's Writer-in-Residence fellowship, which provides an author with a room to work at in the Central Library in Copley Square and a $20,000 stipend.
