5 Things: Senator Coffee Hour, Spaulding Opening

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on April 19 in Charlestown.

1. Showers possible: Today will be mostly cloudy with a high near 71 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. There is a slight chance of showers during the day and likely showers and a possible thunderstorm in the evening. Low around 51. Weekend forecast: Partly sunny with morning showers possible on Saturday; high near 60, low around 37. Sunny with a high of 52 on Sunday, low around 37.

2. Senator coffee hour: State Senator Sal DiDomenico will hold office hours this morning from 9:30-11 a.m. at Zume’s Coffee House (223 Main St.). All are welcome to visit with Sen. DiDomenico or a member of his staff.

3. El Dia de Los Ninos: Join the Charlestown Branch Library (179 Main St.) today at 11:30 a.m. for a celebration of El Dia de Los Ninos (Children’s Day). The children’s librarian will read inspiring picture books, and kids can participate in a craft. All ages are welcome.

4. Spaulding grand opening: Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital (300 First Ave.) will celebrate its grand opening in the Charlestown Navy Yard with a free Community Health Fair and Open House on Sunday, April 21 from 1-5 p.m. The community is invited to come participate in hospital tours, health and wellness activities and children's programs and enjoy healthy snacks.

5. Church history talk: Come hear about the history of St. Mary’s Church in Charlestown and its architect, Patrick Keely, this Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Mary-St. Catherine of Siena Church (55 Warren St.). This program is free and open to all.
