5 Things: State Senator Meetup, Big Sisters Needed

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on May 17 in Charlestown.

1. Mostly sunny: Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 68 degrees and a low around 49, according to the National Weather Service. Weekend forecast: Mostly sunny with possible evening showers on Saturday with a high near 66 and a low around 49. Sunday will be partly sunny with a high near 61 and a low around 49.

2. Sen. DiDomenico office hours: State Sen. Sal DiDomenico will hold local office hours today from 9:30-11 a.m. at Zume’s Coffee House (223 Main St.).

3. Big Sisters needed: The Big Sister Association of Greater Boston is looking for volunteer Big Sisters in Charlestown for their school-based and community-based mentoring programs. To apply or learn more, visit www.bigsister.org, email volunteer@bigsister.org or call 617-236-8060.

4. Snuggle club: The Charlestown Branch Library (179 Main St.) will host a special cuddle and story time for babies under 12 months and their caregivers today at 10:30 a.m. Dress comfortably and bring a small blanket for the baby to lie on.

5. This weekend: Bright Horizons at the Schraffts Center (529 Main St.) will host an open house and trike-a-thon on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A donation of $5 per child is suggested for participating riders; all donations will go toward the opening of a new Bright Space for Children at the NE Behavioral Health Transitions Program in Tewksbury.
