A Party and a Preservation Meeting

The 3rd Annual Party on the Pier and the Charlestown Preservation Society's annual meeting are both set for tonight.

Today is Thursday, June 23. Here are five things you need to know today.

1. There's kind of a big deal going down tonight at the Navy Yard. The 3rd Annual (the Courageous Sailing Pier, to be exact) starts at 6 p.m., rain or shine. The party, which draws hundreds of people to the harbor, is a benefit for the Warren Prescott's after school sailing program -- the first public sailing program, according to its founder John Strachan. This year's party looks like it's going to be a lively one. You can for more details. But if you're worried about the weather, don't be. Organizers have a tent on the pier this year.

2. Over on the other side of the neighborhood, the Charlestown Preservation Society is hosting its annual meeting tonight. That one also starts at 6 p.m., in the StoveFactory Gallery. Members will go over the highlights of this year's work and talk about what's on the horizon. is free and open to the community.

3. By now you've all probably heard of the Bruins' $156,000 bar tab at Foxwoods last weekend. But perhaps you haven't had a chance to see the actual tab. It's a sight to behold. The Globe and the Herald have both published a copy of the actual, infamous receipt. Take a look

4. It's Thursday, Charlestown Live night. Tonight host Kathy Giordano is chatting with nurse Eileen McAdams and Ricardo Sedan from MGH Charlestown Health Center. They'll be talking about the health center's education programming. The show airs on on BNN-TV Comcast Channel 9 and RCN Channel 15 on Thursdays from 6:30 to 7 p.m. It airs again on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Monday at 10:30 a.m. I was lucky enough to be a guest on last week's episode. I had a great time, and would encourage any of you with a local business or project to talk about to get in touch with Kathy about being a guest. I bet she'd love to hear from you.
