A 'Thank You' from Anthony's Dream

Charlestown's local support system has donated $120,000 to neighbors in crisis. This month, Anthony's Dream hosts the 11th Annual Motown Night fundraiser to continue the work.

Editor's Note: Patch received this message from John J. Taglilatela.

This message of "Thank You" is being passed along by the members of the Anthony's Dream committee, to you, from many of your Charlestown neighbors.

One is from the couple holding hands as the wife says "Thank You for what you have done for us," the husband with a protective arm upon her shoulders, simply mouths a silent "Thank You" while nodding his head and glancing in the direction of his sick spouse.

Another comes from the solo woman, sent to us from the rectory on the hill. Introverted by nature, an anonymous woman of the town. As you pass her an envelope she looks in your eyes and asks if she can give you a hug. It may be the loudest unspoken "Thank You" that a person can state.

There was the card that arrived at the PO Box that shared two- distinct penmanships. The sister's handwriting flowed beautifully, as it expressed their appreciation for everyone who contributed. The other writing, from a person in a wheelchair, painstakingly drafted with great physical exertion, was a "Thank You" and a signature. It was an immense effort that spoke volumes.

Each "Thank You", and there are many others, had a similar texture, each had an ability to humble all those present, each had a message that went beyond an appreciation for the services or items that could be purchased. The "Thank You" wasn't primarily for the specialized equipment, medical supplies or medication not covered. The essence of each "Thank you" was a moving acknowledgment that my neighbors cared, that so many individuals living in Charlestown came together to help me, my child, our family. As important as the money provided may be, it is the acts of kindness that cures the spirit, even if only for a bit of time. That is the true sentiment offered with each "Thank You"

The fact that through the support of the town, Anthony's Dream's has now provided over $120,000 to neighbors in crisis is testimony not only to the need in town but also to the size of the hearts of Charlestown residents.

Please join us at the Knights of Columbus on Friday, October 28th as Anthony's Dream hosts the 11th Annual Motown Night to continue pursuing our mission to help members of the Charlestown community cope with the effects of devastating medical events. The music and the dancing are spectacular, the raffle prizes are always great and the cause is certainly worthy. The event begins at 7:00 PM and the cost is $20 at the door. Donations can also be sent to Anthony's Dream, PO Box 290814, Charlestown Ma 02129.

For all that you have done the members of the Anthony Dream Committee offers a heartfelt Thank You!
