WOW! The numbers are impressive! Thank you to everyone who helped Vote Charlestown increase voter turnout!! After only 14 days of a simple grassroots effort to get out the vote, there was a significant impact. We will have more analysis in the next days and plan next steps, but for now here are a few details:
- In 2007, 1607 voters turned out. They projected 1200-1400 this year. Charlestown brought in 2307 votes.
- That is at least a 700 person increase. A huge percentage jump from projected.
- We had the HIGHEST percentage turnout in our district.
The bottom line is that lots of people came out who would not have voted. Even in a low turnout year, Charlestown brought many new faces to the polls. As a result, we now have more people counted and more people who are in a better position to advocate for Charlestown. This is a remarkable step in the right direction. We should be very proud and optimistic. There is a lot of potential and elected officials are beginning to take note. More than anything, so many wonderful people came together for Charlestown. It is all about community!
Congratulations and thank you! Your phone calls, sign holding, flyers and decorating all helped bring people out!! Absolutely awesome. It is just the beginning.
