As Polls Come to a Close, Turnout Low
Despite a robust effort from Vote Charlestown, the turnout around the neighborhood seemed low during Tuesday's municipal election.
It was a sleepy day at the polls in Charlestown, according to the campaign volunteers who'd spent the whole of Election Day outside, stumping for their favorite City Council candidates.
By 5 o'clock, it was dark, turning a bit chilly -- though just a bit after a gloriously warm day -- and volunteers were getting tired. But they were hopeful the after-work crowd would boost numbers.
Over the last month, Vote Charlestown, a new, non-partisan group, has been trying to boost turnout at local polls. Organizers have hosted meetings, sent out e-mail blasts and on Election Day, volunteers did an impressive job dressing the neighborhood up like it was a holiday.

Organizers had high hopes for a record turnout during Tuesday's municipal election. But within a few hours of polls closing, the outlook wasn't good. "Looks like record LOW turnout," Vote02129 said on Twitter.
