Best of the Best in Charlestown

Pretend you're a tourist in your own town. What would you be most delighted to discover?

Today is Tuesday, July 12. Here are five things you need to know today.

1. Are there hidden gems in Charlestown? Of course there are. Would you mind sharing some of them with your neighbors? I hope so. At the end of this month, I'll be running a week's worth of articles that highlight the "best of" in Charlestown. But I want this to reflect what people in the neighborhood actually love. What am I looking for? A couple ideas for spots in town that are off the beaten path. And a few ideas of kid-friendly fun that can be had in Charlestown's single square mile, any time of the year. Take a look at for more details, or send them to me directly: kristi.ceccarossi@patch.com.

2. While I'm asking for help -- here's one more question: Is anyone in town still crazed about Harry Potter? The last part of the last Potter movie is opening this Thursday at midnight. We're looking for fans who may be trekking over to the AMC on the Common for the first showing. Shoot me an email if that's you or someone you know.

3. What are you doing Thursday for dinner? How about a free cookout at the Clougherty Pool? The city and Jetblue (really) are sponsoring the at the pool. It's free. Go for dinner, a dip and info on summer programming.

4. In the ever evolving world of online deals, Groupon has just launched a new feature in Boston: Groupon Now. Go to www.groupon.com/now and type in 02129 -- you'll get results for all the deals (in various categories) that are located within a commutable radius from Charlestown. It's a little overwhelming.

5. The heat continues, though it may be tempered by rain. High of 93 today, with a chance of rain and thunderstorms before noon.
