Boston Activists to Rally in Support of Baltimore Protestors

Boston organizers say they want "amnesty" for the protesters who have been arrested in Baltimore.

Activists are holding a rally in Boston on Wednesday in support of Baltimore protesters angered by the death of a black man in police custody.

The rally, which is being organized by Mass Action Against Police Brutality, will begin at 6 p.m. in front of Roxbury’s Boston Police headquarters.

Organizers say they want “amnesty” for the some 300 protesters who have been arrested in Baltimore. The group also aims to lift the city curfew and state of emergency declaration.

A national rally against police brutality took place in Baltimore in the aftermath of the April 19 death of Freddie Gray. The 25-year-old Baltimore man died in police custody from a mysterious spinal injury, which sparked criticism from the community regarding the way police treat civilians.

Saturday protests, in defense of Gray, were carried out peacefully but by Sunday morning, 34 people had been arrested and six police officers injured. Storefronts and police vehicles were also damaged. Images captured on social media of the violence included video of a man smashing a patrol car window with a trash can and angry protesters yelling directly in the face of officers.
