Boston Magazine Names Navy Yard Bistro 'Best Of'
Plus, the Boston Public School systems announce a new food vendor for the upcoming year.

Today is Tuesday, Aug. 16. Here are five things you need to know today.
1. First, congrats to the , which Boston Magazine just recognized as the Best in the Neighborhood restaurant for Charlestown. I love seeing any local business get highlighted from folks outside the neighborhood -- and I think it should happen more often.
2. There are just a few more weeks left to get in your summer reading. Did you know you can download ebooks and audiobooks from the public library? Supported devices include iPod, iPhone, Sony Reader and the Barnes & Noble Nook. Kindle isn't supported yet, but could be within the year.

3. Patch Deal of the Day is up and running, as you might have noticed on our site. It's sort of like GroupOn, but these are deals our own advertising crew develops with local shops. This week we're offering three personal trainer sessions for $75. Check it out. (And if you're a business owner interested in developing a deal for the site, get in touch with Kate Gregory: kate.gregory@patch.com.)
4. Parents! Sept. 8, the first day of classes for the city's public schools, is nearly upon us. We got word from BPS press folks that the school system has selected a new food provider. Whitsons Culinary Group, a family-owned company, will be serving this year. Whitsons is based in New York, but in their pitch to the school system, they pledged to use local products whenever possible: 41 percent of their products are purchased in Massachusetts or New England.

5. Today's weather: One more day of rain, though not as heavy as what we saw on Monday. Showers mostly before 1 p.m. High near 76.
