Boston Makes 'Worst Binge Drinking Cities' List

Boston is one of several New England cities on the list organized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Binge drinking, by the BDC’s definition, is the consumption of at least five drinks for men on one occasion and at least four drinks for women.

Boston, at a rank of 29, is one of the worst binge-drinking cities in the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 20.5 percent of those surveyed said they binge drink.

Other New England cities had the dishonor of making the cut:

  • Burlington, Vt. placed 7th with a “yes” percentage of 23.5.
  • Laconia, N.H. edged Boston by earning the 28th spot.
  • Portland, Maine, and Torrington, Conn., tied for 34th at 19.9 percent.
  • 19.5 people surveyed in Springfield said they binge drink.
