Boston Seeks Private Group to Run First Night Events
The city Monday will issue a request for proposals, seeking a company to produce the event this year.

Boston is looking to pass First Night to a private organizer, in the hopes that the festival can become financially self-sustaining.
The Boston Herald reported that the city Monday will issue a request for proposals, seeking a company to produce this year’s event and create new programs. In 2013 the New Year’s Eve arts extravaganza was rescued by then-mayor Thomas M. Menino.
Boston is seeking proposals for a one-year partnership to produce the event, with a two-year option. The producer would be responsible for paying for First Night Boston, including sponsorships and admission button sales.

If First Night proves not to be financially self-sustaining or if there aren’t any acceptable proposals, the organization’s festivities may be discontinued.
