Charlestown Neighborhood Council Meets Tonight

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on June 4 in Charlestown.

1. Sunny: Today will be clear and sunny with a high near 75 degrees and a low around 52, according to the National Weather Service.

2. CNC meeting: The Charlestown Neighborhood Council will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus hall (545 Medford St.). The meeting is open to the public. A draft version of the agenda can be viewed in the image gallery at right. The council will not meet in July or August.

3. Scooper Bowl: Enjoy a sweet taste of summer and help raise money to fight cancer at the annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl today through Thursday at Boston’s City Hall Plaza. Presented by FedEx, the event runs daily from 12-8 p.m. and will feature all-you-can-eat ice cream and frozen yogurt from Breyers, Baskin-Robbins, Ben and Jerry’s, Blue Bunny, Byrne Dairy, Edy's, Friendly's and HP Hood. Admission is $10 for adults (ages 10 and up), $5 for children (ages 3-9) and free for children under three. A three-day Scooper pass costs $20. Tickets are available at the door or online at scooperbowl.org.

4. Paint the town: Want to help paint Charlestown red, white and blue for the Bunker Hill Day festivities? Contact Sean Boyle at townie.association@gmail.com for details. The group will be blowing up balloons all day on Saturday, June 15 at Mishawum Hall and distributing them that evening.

5. Going back to school? The Alray Scholars Program offers scholarships of up to $5,000 for Boston public school students who left college early and want to return to earn degrees at two- or four-year colleges, trade schools or for other post-secondary education and certification programs. The deadline to apply is Saturday, June 15. More information and application materials can be found online at alray.org or by emailing info@alray.org.
