Charlestown Resident Named to Forbes 50 Over 50 Impact List
The list spotlights women over the age of 50 who are leaving a positive and lasting impact on the world

Charlestown resident Kate Curran was just named to the 50 Over 50: Impact List by Forbes Magazine. The list spotlights women over the age of 50 who are leaving a positive and lasting impact on the world. Kate founded international nonprofit School the World to fight extreme poverty at its core by bringing quality education to children in Guatemala, Honduras and Panama.
Kate left her job as a corporate attorney and founded the nonprofit in 2009 after a year-long trip opened her eyes to the dire need for quality education in impoverished sectors of the world. She learned of 12 children sharing one pencil in a Tanzania classroom and students crossing through crocodile-infested waters to get to school in a Zambian village. Since its inception, School the World has built 106 schools, 56 playgrounds, stocked 519 classroom libraries, empowered 6,756 parents to be their child's "first educators", assisted in training over 3,200 teachers and educated over 11,437 children.
