Charlestown Shooting Victim Remembered
Friends on Wednesday gathered at a memorial set up at Monument and Medford streets and donated funds to help the family of a man who died Tuesday night.
Though Boston Police have not officially released the name of the man shot on Charlestown’s Monument Street late Tuesday night, residents around town seem to know exactly who he was, and they’re raising funds to help his family in the aftermath of his death.
Boston Police detectives are investigating the shooting, which occurred at around 10:18 p.m. Tuesday night near 92 Monument St.
According to numerous Twitter users from Charlestown and a GoFundMe.com page set up by Charlestown resident Shannon Lundin, the victim in Tuesday night’s shooting was local resident Steven Jones.

Using the hashtag #RIPSteve, many people took to Twitter on Wednesday to share their thoughts about Jones.
“Charlestown lost a good kid way too young late last night, my prayers are with the Jones Family and its closest friends,” one person wrote.

Another tweet: “Although your time here was cut short, the memories live on forever. Love & miss you Steve. #RIPSTEVE #TOWNIES”
And another tweet: “Thoughts and prayers go to my buddies over the bridge who lost a good friend #StayStrong #RIPSteve.”
About seven hours after it was set up, the gofundme.com page for Jones had raised more than $3,600 toward its $10,000 goal, and by 10 p.m.—about 24 hours after the shooting—the page had raised $5,400.
“When a family loses a loved one, they are left with the financial burden of funeral costs on top of their emotional grief,” Lundin wrote in the description on the funding page. “You can help comfort Steven's family, especially his mother Suzy, by sharing this page, leaving thoughts, prayers, memories, and donating funds. We can all come together by offering emotional and financial support for a family during a difficult time.”
Several people on Twitter said they planned to gather in Charlestown Wednesday night to pay their respects. A memorial, with T-shirts, flowers, photos, snotes, candles, stuffed animals and other items was set up sometime on Wednesday at the corner of Medford and Monument streets.
A football with the name "Steve" written on it and a photo of Jones in a Townies uniform indicated that Jones had played football for Charlestown High School.
A crowd was still gathered at the site late Wednesday evening, with a police cruiser parked nearby.
"I really don't think anyone can say a bad word about Steven," one friend wrote on the GoFundMe.com page. "With his mother's heart, and the loyalty of a lion, he truly was a good friend to everyone."
Police have not released details about any suspects in the shooting but are asking people in the community to come forward with any information they might have.
