Common Boston Comes to Charlestown
Common Boston, a Boston Society of Architects event, is exploring Charlestown this Saturday.

Today is Tuesday, June 16. Here are five things you need to know today.
1. If you see a group of architects and designers wandering around the neighborhood on Saturday, don't be alarmed. In fact, feel free to join them. They'll be participating in a day-long tour of Charlestown as part of this year's which tries to foster a more sustainable urban environment in Boston with city-wide and neighborhood-centric events. You can learn more about Common Boston here, and more about what they're doing in Charlestown .
2. So I'm a day late on this one, but June 15 was a dark one for neighborhood and New England history. On June 15, 1649, Margaret Jones of Charlestown was the first person tried and executed for witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts. She was a puritan mid-wife and she practiced medicine, like many women did in that era before the witch hunt. She's got a Wikipedia page if you're curious about her life.
3. There have been a handful of comments on Jack Kelly's column on whether or not Bunker Hill Day should be a holiday -- and how. Seems like the debate is still open in Charlestown. Here's one of my favorite responses, from PattyK: "i think we should seriously vote to have the legislature's annual salary be $1.00. like nh does, and then they won't be sticking around long enough to make decisions like these and like what the state's shellfish should be." (Is this true about New Hampshire?) Anyway, you can read all of them, and weigh in,
4. It's Thursday. Charlestown Live Day. Tonight host Kathy Giordano is speaking with me, the editor of Patch. I think we'll be chatting about what Patch is exactly, how you can get involved and what kind of stories I'm looking for. Charlestown Live airs on on BNN-TV Comcast Channel 9 and RCN Channel 15 on Thursdays from 6:30 to 7 p.m. It airs again on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Monday at 10:30 a.m.
5. Looks like a beautiful day today. Sunny, with a high near 83. Enjoy.
