More than 200 residents turned out Thursday to hear Boston mayoral candidate John Connolly speak.

More than 200 Charlestown residents gathered Thursday night at the Knights of Columbus Hall to hear city councilor and mayoral candidate John Connolly speak about his vision for Boston’s future.

Paul Scapicchio, who represented Charlestown, East Boston and the North End as a city councilor from 1998 to 2006, announced his support for Connolly at the event.

"John is an outstanding person. He is caring, sincere and intelligent, he surrounds himself with smart and hard working people and has a vision for building upon Boston's strength; our people. I am proud to support John," Scapicchio said.

On May 18, Connolly opened a second campaign field office on Main Street in Charlestown.
