Courageous Kids Get a Chance to Sail Solo on 'Space-Age' Dinghies
A group from US Sailing visited Pier 4 recently and brought a fleet of O'pen Bics for local teens to try out on the harbor.

Kate Henderson, who directs youth programs at Courageous Sailing, sent an email over to Patch last week for an update on what's been happening this month at Pier 4 in the Navy Yard.
The organization hosted the US Sailing Roadshow, which is run by a pair of representatives from US Sailing, the national governing body sailing.
Here's what Kate said: "They brought with them five high-tech, super-fast O'Pen Bic dinghies, a special treat for our sailors at both sites who are accustomed to the relatively slower and less athletic feeling Rhodes-19s. These little space-age, roto-molded dinghies gave most of our students their first-ever opportunity to sail a boat alone, a yacht-club-caliber experience that we were psyched to provide to a bunch of Boston kids on Boston Harbor!"
