Five Firefighters Hurt Battling Trash Fire in Charlestown

Five Boston firefighters were injured battling a two-alarm trash fire at the Casella recycling center in Charlestown on Thursday.

A large blaze broke out at 24 Bunker Hill Industrial Park, which is located near Interstate 93.

Officials say the fire started burning in the rear of the two-story, windowless building around 11:20 a.m.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the building when fire crews arrived on scene. Firefighters were forced to pull apart burning trash with rakes in order to extinguish the flames.

The injured firefighters were transported via Boston EMS to an area hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
