Drug Charges Refiled Against Charlestown Man

Neil Gillis, 28, was arrested in February when police found 17 bags of heroin in his home.

A Charlestown man hit with heroin-dealing charges that were originally dismissed will be hit again, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Neil Gillis will be charged with distribution of heroin charges at his next court date on April 17.

Boston police arrested 28-year-old Neil Gillis after seeing him conduct a drug deal and finding 17 bags of heroin and an illegal gun in his home back in Februrary.

In June 2014, Gillis was arrested for possession with intent to distribute heroin and the charges were dismissed in January during a scheduling mix-up at a motion-to-suppress hearing. The defense attorney showed up late, arriving after police officers who were set to testify returned to work, the Boston Herald reported.

The court says a new complaint was authorized that recharges Gillis with the June 2014 heroin counts.

Gillis is being held at the Nashua Street Jail on $5,000 bail. He plead not guilty to charges of gun and ammo possession, having a gun with an obliterated serial number and possession of heroin with intent to distribute from the February incident.
