Encore Screening of 'Race to Nowhere' Set for May 19
Plus, two major fundraisers are scheduled this weekend for two local organizations.

Today is Friday, May 13. Here are five things you need to know today.
1. By now you've probably already heard from someone in town, but in case you missed it: there are two major fundraisers this weekend for two seriously wonderful local organizations. On Friday night the Charlestown Lacrosse and Learning Center will host its at the Knights. The event will include a silent auction, raffle items and Stump Trivia will be there to run the competition. Tickets are $30 at the door or $200 for a table of 10. For details or tickets, contact Kim Perry at 617.242.1813 or kim@charlestownlacrosse.org. Then on Saturday, the Special Townies host their annual at the Knights. There will be raffles and a DJ. Tickets are $20. For more info on the great work this group does, take a look at our .
2. Speaking of events, you can put this one in your calendar for next week: The Charlestown Nursery School has organized an encore screening of the provocative documentary Race to Nowhere on May 19. It will screen at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Warren Prescott auditorium. Tickets for previous screenings sold out quickly, so get them while you can. 3. We reported some big news out of the mayor's office yesterday -- with big implications for the neighborhood: Jack Kelly, Charlestown's liaison to the mayor, has . Jack's spent 5 years in the mayor's office (and a few months on Patch as a beloved columnist), and he's decided to seek other opportunities. A big salute to Jack! He's still on the job til at least the Bunker Hill parade. No word from City Hall yet about the pursuit for his successor. For sure, he's going to be hard to replace.
4. In other city news, Councilor Mike Ross this week to a column he read here on the Patch. Our writer, John Keith, made an dedicated to the downtown area. Ross, who covers much of Boston "proper" had some interesting words on that. .
