Four Firefighters Injured Battling Chelsea Blaze: Update

Nobody was inside, but a dozen people lost their home in Monday's four-alarm fire.

Four firefighters sustained minor injuries and 12 people lost their home to the flames Monday in Chelsea.

The three story, wood-frame home went up in flames on Bellingham Road earlier this afternoon, according to multiple reports. It soon escalated into a four-alarm fire, drawing in crews from multiple jurisdictions.

As the afternoon wore on, four firefighters sustained minor injuries in the line of duty, and were taken to the hospital. According to WCVB's Jorge Quiroga, three of the firefighters apparently suffered from smoke inhalation and one was knocked unconscious. Two were from Chelsea, one was from Everett and the fourth firefighter was from Revere, he reported.

Fire investigators arrived on scene Monday evening, and are working to determine the cause of the fire, which is believed to have started at the back of the house.

The residents were not inside at the time of the fire, but the building's 12 occupants lost their home in the blaze. Massachusetts Red Cross reported it is providing assistance to the displaced residents.
