Free Clinic, Exhibit at Zelma Lacey House

The Visiting Nurse Association is hosting a free clinic and bringing a traveling exhibit to the Zelma Lacey House this week.

As part of Charlestown Pride Week, the Visiting Nurse Association of Boston will host a blood pressure and cholesterol check clinic at the Zelma Lacey House on June 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The clinic is free and open to the public.

The VNA of Boston is the country’s first and oldest visiting nurse association. This is the 125th anniversary and to commemorate that, the VNA is bringing a traveling exhibit to the Zelma Lacey during Charlestown Pride Week.

The traveling exhibit includes a timeline illustrating the VNA of Boston & Affiliates’ (VNABA) history and how its clinicians provided health care services during some of the most difficult crises the community has ever faced. It shows how nurses were on the front lines during the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918, the care given to veterans returning home from war, the education provided to families on proper nutrition during the Great Depression and how VNABA nurses and therapists were vital caregivers during public health crises such as polio epidemics and the emergence of HIV/AIDS.
