Gas Drops Below $3 in Parts of Massachusetts--But Not Charlestown

Gas prices hit a low of $3.19 in town this week.

Gas prices this week plummeted to their lowest levels of the year—dropping below $3 a gallon in some parts of Massachusetts. But Charlestown’s prices have remained well above $3 per gallon.

In Charlestown, prices reached a low of $3.19 per gallon by mid-week. Here’s a look at the lowest prices in town as of Wednesday, according to GasBuddy:

  • Hess (123 Cambridge St. near Parker St.): $3.19
  • Shell (1 Rutherford Ave. near Old Rutherford Ave.): $3.69

The price per gallon, however, has dipped just below $3 in nearby Chelsea, with Premier Petrol reporting on Wednesday that it had been charging $2.99 per gallon.

The average price of gas statewide was $3.26. Prices have been driven down by low demand and abundant supplies, according to the Associated Press.
