Gomez and Markey: First U.S. Senate Debate Tonight
Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on June 5 in Charlestown.

1. Sunny: Today will be sunny with a light wind and a high around 74 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The evening will be mostly cloudy with a low around 56.
2. Election debate: The two candidates vying for Massachusetts’ open U.S. Senate seat—Republican Gabriel Gomez and Democrat Edward Markey will face off today in their first debate before the June 25 special state election at WBZ-TV studios. The debate will air live from 7-8 p.m. on WBZ/CBS Channel 4.
3. Waterfront meeting: The Charlestown Waterfront Coalition meets at Building 114 at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month.

4. Library fun: Bring your little ones (ages 0-5) to the Charlestown Branch Library (179 Main St.) today at 10:30 a.m. for “Moms and Music”—a program that includes sign language, parachute play, freestyle dancing and songs.
5. Scooper Bowl: The Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl continues today and Thursday at Boston’s City Hall Plaza, from 12-8 p.m. Admission for this all-you-can-eat ice cream fundraiser is $10 for adults (ages 10 and up), $5 for children (ages 3-9) and free for children under three. A three-day Scooper pass costs $20. Tickets are available at the door or online at scooperbowl.org.
