Harvard-Kent Goes to Zume's
This month Zume's is featuring the work of 42 Harvard-Kent students. On Friday, the artists got a chance to visit the cafe -- and see their work on the walls.
Last Friday a group of more than 40 students from Harvard-Kent Elementary School marched down to Zume's to see their own art work hanging on the local cafe's walls. Art Teacher Patricia Wilson led the third-, fourth- and fifth-grade children in an "art critic" excersise, where they were encouraged to review their classmates' work. Debra Ball, Zume's co-owner, had plenty of cupcakes and juice boxes on hand for the artists. And several of the students' friends and relatives turned out for the exhibit.
Here's a statement on the project from Wilson:
For the third year, Zume’s Coffee House has graciously invited the visual arts students of the Harvard-Kent Elementary School to display their artworks in Zume’s gallery spaces. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase some of our best student work and the community will have a chance to see another way we incorporate the P.R.I.D.E. motto into all areas of our school. The students are very excited about this public venue and invite you to view their watercolor and tempera paintings, oil pastels, legacy portraits and colored pencil drawings. New for this year is the symmetrical bird graphic design created from colored pencils and Microsoft Word 2003 on both eMacs and PC’s—a really cool combination of visual art, computer and design skills. Venturing into computer design has led us to start learning about product design. As you enjoy the artwork, please help us raise funds for the art program by purchasing the greeting cards that have been created from the students’ bird designs and computer graphics. One hundred percent of all monies earned will be used to purchase materials for our visual arts students. The Harvard-Kent
Goes to Zume’s 3 Art Show will be on display for the month of June 2011.
