Hearing on City's Trash Policy Set for Today

Councilor Sal LaMattina is looking at ways to regulate the city's trash collection, and limit the amount of debris on the streets.

Today is Thursday, Oct. 6. Here are five things you need to know today.

1. Got some thoughts on how to make the city's trash collection better? Councilor Sal LaMattina wants to hear from you. He's co-sponsoring -- specifically he's wondering if using metal or plastic barrels will help keep trash off the streets and make life easier for sanitation workers. The hearing starts at 2 p.m. in the City Council's chambers.

2. There will be one less business in Charlestown soon. is going bankrupt and closing 63 of its restaurants, including the one in the Bunker Hill Mall. This is a hard time for anyone to be out of a job. And it could be a hard time to recruit a new business to that space.

3. Margaret Bledsoe, the headmaster at the high school, about trying to reconnect the community with the school. There's been a lot of good dialogue on Patch this week about this issue. Take a minute and . 

4. Year Up is hosting its Second Annual Walk for Opportunity today from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The walk, which starts and ends at the Parkman Bandstand on the Boston Common, was formed to raise awareness of the need for cities to utilize the talents and skills of motivated young adults.
