How Does Your Garden Grow?
The mayor's office would like to know. Deadline to enter this year's Garden Contest is July 15.
Today is Monday, June 27. Here are five things you need to know today.
1. When the hometown team wins, we drink. But that doesn’t mean we get violent, so says a new report from the Boston Public Health Commission. Spurred by the destruction witnessed in Vancouver following the Canucks’ loss, the health commission looked at hospital data during Boston’s sports celebrations. The analysis shows the number of alcohol-related visits to the ER “notably increases” during a victory parade celebration, but the number of assault-related ER visits shows no change. This is interesting. The report showed that the Bruins parade on June 18 generated the most alcohol-related hospital visits (46), followed by 45 during the 2008 parade for the Celts. The 2007 parade after the Sox won the World Series generated the fewest alcohol-related ER visits with 20. Want to read more about the report? Click here.
2. All that said, the state police will be holding a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in Suffolk County on between this Thursday and Friday. Don’t drink and drive, you know, ever. But especially not this week.
