How Many Millionaires Live in Boston?

Boston made the Boston Business Journal's recently released list of where the most millionaires live in the state.

Boston suburbs continue to top the list of towns and cities with the most millionaires, according to the latest report from the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.

The Boston Business Journal reported the state’s Top 30 towns and cities with the most million-dollar income earners in 2013, which is the most recent year for which statistics are available.

Boston came in at No. 8 on the list. In 2013, there were 1,617 millionaire tax-filers in Boston. With a population of 645,966 and 48 square miles within the town borders, that means there are 33.4 millionaires per square mile in town.

Put another way, there’s a millionaire for every 399 Boston residents.

Wellesley, Cambridge and Brookline topped the list, with 726 millionaire filers in Wellesley at 71 per square mile.

Among the top 30, all but Milton and Natick continued to report year-after-year declines in the number of Millionaires, said the BBJ.
