Late Library Notices Go Digital

Plus, the Chamber of Commerce gets ready for its 'year-end' celebration at Tavern on the Water.

Today is Tuesday, June 21. Happy summer solstice/first day of summer! Here are five things you need to know today.

1. I sort of can't believe the Boston Public Library has been mailing late notices all this time. But that business ends on July 1. Library officials announced late notices are going digital -- mostly. If you're overdue, you'll hear from the library via email and phone. No more snail mail. Now's the time to update your BPL account with an email or a phone number if you haven't already. You can do that by clicking here.

2. The Charlestown Chamber of Commerce is hosting a big to-do at Tavern on the Water tomorrow. This is the business org's annual "end of year" celebration. The fun starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the lower deck at the Tavern. It's $25 per person, payable at the door. RSVPs were due last week, but if you forgot to respond, I'm sure organizers will make an exception. As long as you ask nicely: 617-242-4152 or email CharlestownMaChamber@gmail.com

3. The new wind technology testing center on Terminal Street has only been a couple of months, but according to a Boston Globe article, it's already cranking. The state's energy and environmental affairs secretary told the Globe there's already 18 months of work lined up at the site. You can read more about what's happening there at this link.

4. Want to do stuff with your kids -- for free - on Fridays in the summer? The Highland Street Foundation is running its Free Fun Fridays this summer, which gives free admission to some of the states most well-known attractions every Friday for nine weeks this summer. Want to see what kind of venues are on the list, and how to take advantage of this? Visit www.highlandstreet.org.
