The Life Focus Center has unveiled plans to renovate the Charlestown Veteran Memorial Park -- a move that will be marked with a public flag-raising ceremony on Friday at 11 a.m. Charlestown veterans will be honored to mark the launch of the planned renovations.
The renovation plans include enhancing current park details as well as adding new features, which include lighting, benches, and a small reflecting pool. Local artist, David Phillips, will design the sculptures for the new park. Phillips’ work includes both public and private commissions as well as collections and exhibitions. His sculptures can be seen throughout Boston, including City Square Park in Charlestown.

As a part of the renovation, at least 500 bricks will be used for the surface of the park. These bricks will be engraved with the names and service branch of veterans at a cost of $150 per brick. To honor a veteran, friends and family members may purchase these bricks which will help contribute to the cost of the park redesign. Corporate and organizational sponsors may also donate. Granite blocks, benches, flag poles, and other ornamentals will be carved with inscriptions to identify these donors.
The park, located on Main Street in Charlestown, currently serves as a memorial for United States veterans who served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The proposed redesign includes a rededication of the park to honor all veterans who have served our country.
Life Focus Center Executive Director, Jack Millerick, Eileen Lock, Commander and Billy Boyle, past Commander from the J.W. Conway Bunker Hill Post #26 American Legion, as well as Joseph Zuffante, President and Stanley Leonard, Treasurer of the Abraham Lincoln Post #11 are expected to attend Friday's ceremony.
