Local Kids, Sophisticated Art

There are two exhibits in Charlestown right now, highlighting the art work of local students.

Today is Tuesday, June 14. Here are five things you need to know today.

1. The Friends of City Square want you to get out and use that beautiful park. That's part of the reason why they've organized another concert series -- every third Wednesday in June, July and August. This series starts this Wednesday with the (spicy Cajun flavored-music). Show's on from 5:30 to 7:30. Visit citysquarepark.org to find more info, become a member of the Friends and support the park.

2. Kids can create surprisingly, sort of shockingly sophisticated art. If you want some evidence, stop by Zume's sometime this month for a look at the work for some 40 Harvard-Kent kids in the third, fourth and fifth grades. Their annual exhibit is up at the cafe for the rest of June. You can also swing by the , for an opening reception of Warren-Prescott students' work. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. You can call 617-635-8346 for more info.

3. What do Bill Clinton and the Edwards Middle School have in common? Not a whole lot maybe, but this week the former President's foundation is recognizing the local school for the work done to make its campus a healthier one for kids and teachers. Apparently the Edwards Middle has added physical activity into the school’s health curriculum, and now offers baseball and ski trips over the winter to kids. Fresh fruits and veggies are offered throughout the school day and teachers are encouraged to provide healthy foods as classroom rewards. Props to the Edwards staff from the Clinton Foundation -- and us.

4. Have photos from the Bunker Hill parade? I want to see them, and your neighbors do too. . (It's super easy and will only take a few minutes. I promise.) If you're having trouble, you can email me your stuff too: Kristi.Ceccarossi@patch.com.

5. One more chilly day. High of 57 today. Chance of rain, 40 percent. It will get better!
