Man Charged in Connection to Bank Heist -- Again

A suspect robbed the Rutherford Avenue branch of Sovereign Bank on Tuesday. The same suspect was arrested after a Canal Street bank robbery in the fall.

The Sovereign Bank on Rutherford Avenue was robbed around 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Police have arrested Michael Fidler, 32, of Winthrop, in connection to the heist -- the same Michael Fidler who was arrested in November in connection a similar robbery at a Sovereign Bank on Canal Street in Boston.

Witnesses actually report that two suspects were involved in the Rutherford Avenue robbery on Tuesday. They described two white men, about 40-45 years of age, one heavy set and the other with a slim build, according to a police report.

The suspects huddled by the bank's ATM before the heavy-set suspect walked in and demanded cash with a note that read, "Money, money, no dye pack!"

The suspect was handed an undisclosed sum of money with a dye pack and fled through the rear doors.

Just after the robbery, police broadcast a description of the suspects and officers observed a man matching the description of the heavyset man, running across Rutherford Avenue. Police ordered him, Fidler, to stop but he refused and a brief foot pursued ensued.

Once caught, Fidler refused to show his hands and a struggle took place with officers. Once in custody, police noticed that the he had red paint/dye on his T-shirt and pants.

Detectives continue to investigate this incident to determine the identity of the individual who was with Fidler in the ATM area.
